Week of July 9 – 15 // The Fight // 1 John 2:28 – 3:10

How do we win over sin?

Box 7 Tips:

It’s that time of the summer, when some dating relationships on tour start to solidify. Are you or a friend beginning to date someone in DCI because of the comfort that person brings? That relationship might not be honoring to God or spiritually healthy. For everyone connected with Box 7, a resource we recommend on relationships in the Breakaway Ministries app. Check out the podcast folder (in the app) entitled “Single / Dating / Engaged / Married” or stream online at this link.

Plan: looking ahead a few days, how will I spend time with God?

Pray: where & when will I pray? what & who will I pray for?

Pursue: who is in my Focus Group, and how will we set aside time?

Week Overview

Scripture: 1 John 2:28-3:10

Breakaway Podcast: The Fight

Options for related reading or study:

Romans 6

Psalm 139

More than just a teacher and miracle-worker, Jesus destroyed sin and conquered the power of the devil. In our lives, the power of sin is broken when we apply the Gospel and draw near to Jesus.

Key Verse

  • "No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's see abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother." 1 John 3:9-10

Pray

Create your own prayer. Here are some ideas… Thank God for sending Jesus to conquer sin & death. Confess sin that you need to bring to Him. Ask for help to abide in Jesus and practice righteousness. Pray for friends & family at home.
