Week of July 30 – August 5 // This is Love // 1 John 4:7-21

Are you truly free to love other people?

Box 7 Tips:

  • What memories or performance moments do you want to remember from this season? Take some time away from social media or idle conversation to journal about these memories. You might be able to find a few more tweaks to your show-prep or EPL process to gain some time in these last couple weeks.
  • Have you spent time lately with Scriptures or music that bring joy and hope in Jesus? If not, recall some of your favorites for your last few bus rides.

Plan: looking ahead a few days, how will I spend time with God?

Pray: where & when will I pray? what & who will I pray for?

Pursue: who is in my Focus Group, and how will we set aside time?

Options for related reading or study:

John 15:1-17

Psalm 36

As we anchor into the true story of Jesus, abiding in his love that he initiated toward us, we can be fearless and fruitful in loving other people.

Key Verse

  • "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love." 1 John 4:18

Pray

  • God, thank you for sending your son to give us true life and love. I confess that sometimes I fear other people rather than trusting in you and loving other people. Fill me with your love so that I can love others. In Christ's name, Amen.”

Read - 1 John 4:7-21

Read in your Bible, app, or online. Since this is a slightly longer passage, it can be great to re-read the verses or listen to them on an audio Bible.

Respond - Personal Reflection & Obedience

Can you name someone in your life who has a constant, initiating, abiding love for you?

Can you name people in your life who you are afraid of because you want their approval? Journal about that situation.

How can you grow in your relationship with God so that you are secure in Him and not afraid of people?

Share - Focus Group Times
